Learn how to color fabrics using natural dyes from the plants growing in the garden.

In this workshop, we will explore different methods of applying color to fabric using natural plant dyes, including working with fresh indigo leaves, fresh goldenrod flowers, and an indigo vat. These will create beautiful natural shades of turquoise, yellow, and blue!

Participants will receive a silk handkerchief to explore and layer different techniques but are welcomed and encouraged to bring additional white materials to dye from home.

Please note: any fabrics or yarns brought to the workshop must be 100% made of natural materials (ex: 100% cotton, wool, linen, or silk) and must be thoroughly washed before arriving to the workshop for the best dye uptake. Some examples of materials to bring include cotton t-shirts, bandanas, scarves, tote bags, or skeins of yarn.

    • We live in a culture that values efficiency, speed and cognitive performance, which can sometimes make the idea of slowing down almost seem farcical. To what effect? And yet, we need to be able to navigate both, the capacity to perform when expected and to slow down, rest and recuperate when needed. The concept of Grounding offers a tool for supporting the body, mind and human energy field to slow down, recharge and find peace. During this 45 minute workshop we will explore the concept of grounding, some of the science behind it and some practical exercises you can take home to incorporate into your self care routine.
