Jersey City is looking for volunteers to take part in the city's third annual citywide cleanup event, the Great Jersey City Cleanup, on April 28.
The event, organized with Keep America Beautiful, will be held at various locations across the city from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Last year more than 1,400 volunteers and some 50 local organizations helped remove 30 tons of garbage and seven tons of recycling from streets and open spaces, officials said.
Also, 25 planters were weeded and replanted as a part of the effort with Keep America Beautiful, a non-profit that is devoted to litter reduction, increasing recycling and neighborhood beautification through civic engagement.
"As a city, we are committed to working to keep our city clean, and on April 28, we ask that our residents join in on this effort," Fulop said in a statement. "Coming together as a community to beautify each ward of our city has been an incredible success during the past two years, and I look forward to pitching in with volunteers at the Great Jersey City Cleanup."
The cleanup is part of the city's Earth Day activities with the hope of mobilizing residents, civic organizations, community leaders and elected officials to roll up their sleeves and help clean Jersey City on a single day.
