WE ARE GARDENERS
Riverview Community Garden (RCG), is a New Jersey and 501 c 3 Non-Profit Organization that has been an integral part of the Jersey City Heights community for 20 years (2015). Directly next to Riverview-Fisk Park between Bowers and Griffith streets on Palisade Avenue, it is a open-plan, fenced community garden edged with trees and shrubs. It is home to the beautiful work of some thirty resident gardeners who tend individual and communal plots of vegetables and flowers. All of this is done under the backdrop of a sweeping view from the top of the Palisades cliff over Hoboken, the Hudson and Manhattan. The garden not only enhances the beauty of the park, but cultivates a spirit of community. RCG's commitment to providing gardening opportunities and activities to citizens of all ages and incomes; educational programs and establishing collaborative partnerships with other community organizations, provides a nurturing and stabilizing presence in the park and the neighborhood as a whole.
This season we are all about the "Beautification of the Heights!" Join RCG's GUERILLA GARDENING BRIGADE ("The Revolution is Growing!") for an opportunity to beautify and improve neglected, barren or overgrown spaces. We will take on projects around the community along Palisade Avenues, in addition to Janet Moore and Riverview Parks. Some of these projects will include Troop Digs, Seed Bombs and Bulb Blasts. This group is great for newbies to gardening, children and those who love to garden without boundaries.
We also encourage artists, carpenters, grant writers, fundraisers, ...or those who aspire to be and those who love fundraising to join us in our efforts and various projects including "Art in the Garden"; "RCG Composting Project"; "Children's Learning Garden"; our communal "Food Share Garden"; "Pilot Urban Beekeeping Program" and "Project Walkway". We welcome students to intern at RCG for school credit as well.
